New figures show the US prison population has seen its biggest rise since the year 2000. On Wednesday, the Justice Department reported the number of prisoners increased by more than sixty-two thousand last year. There are now more than two point two million people behind bars in the United States.

Comment June 28: It has been reported that the US has the highest percentage of its population behind bars of any so-called developed nation. Right now, the US does little to nothing to truly rehabilitate prisoners. Rehabilitation used to be emphasized. It was a powerful progressive principle.

Now, once again, the emphasis is on punishment, breaking up families, and keeping people down. Add to that the new drive to make money off corporatized, privatized prisons. It's an obvious sin against God.
