Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats and independents to say that religion is very important in their lives. This relationship is particularly strong among whites and others who do not identify as black. Women who are Republicans are more likely to be religious than women who are independents and Democrats. The same relationship between religion and party identification holds among men.
