In the educational system of the United States, capitalistic competition is placed before character. Great pressure is being put upon children at a very early age to prepare to compete with the children of other nations. The wages in other nations are lower, so if things continue in the direction they're now headed, American children will drive themselves and their parents will drive them, push them, pressure them, and stress them out, only for those children to find out that they'll have to migrate to another country to compete there for a job. Those other nations won't like the attempted influx. They'll impose protectionist immigration policies. Most already have them in place.
Education should be tuition-free at the college and graduate levels just as it is at the high school level. Also, the children should be educated to cooperate, not compete. The children should also have the content of their characters emphasized first and foremost.
The fervor is consistent with the mantras of consume, consume, consume and doubt, doubt, doubt (meaning faithlessness in God, in righteousness for its sake).
It also facilitates the unethical behavior of government. The citizenry in the aggregate gets what it deserves. Cutthroat competition has led to so-called nation security and the classification of information being used for outright gangsterism, racketeering, war-profiteering, torture, mass murder (war), and the rest of the huge list of depraved activities of the US government.
