For the cost of the Iraq War, we could have lifted the entire planet.
The following figures may be from the late 1990's, so considering inflation, the point is well made.
Annual Cost of Alleviating Poverty (UN Human Development Program)
For Food, Clean water, Clothes, Education, Health Care & Sanitation for 4.4 billion people: $60 billion
For Food and Basic Health Care for 4.4 billion people: $19.5 billion
What Americans and Europeans spend annually on pet food: $25 billion (for comparison).
As of Wednesday, January 31, 2007, the US Iraq War has appropriated three hundred, sixty-three billion US dollars. That's not counting the black-budget expenditures.
For the cost of the Iraq War, the US could have provided food, clean water, clothes, education, healthcare, and sanitation to every poor person on the earth. Think about the good will that, that would have generated rather than the death and destruction the US has caused instead.
