Calvinism is increasing in the ranks of the Southern Baptists in the U.S. The Southern Baptists represent the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S. at some 16 million.

John Calvin was a Protestant theologian of French extraction who started what is known as the Reformed Church and Calvinism. He was a capitalist who frowned upon the poor as being inherently lazy. He wanted to force people to profess Christianity. He wanted power to excommunicate others. He accepted torture. He burned so-called witches at the stake.

He has many apologists who forgive him for being a man of his ruthless times. Hogwash. He had the Gospel of Jesus to read. We have torture on-going today, but Real Liberal Christians denounce such behavior. There is no excuse of "the times" for people who have read and studied the Gospels in detail. Calvin is no exception.

Calvin did not bring forth even when he was in a position to do so.

His interpretation of scripture failed miserably to take into account the simultaneousness of contexts in which Jesus thought, spoke, lived, and still lives. He was wrong. Calvin ought not to be followed. No one ought to be his disciple.
