Defense Secretary Robert Gates has called CENTCOM commander Adm. William Fallon "one of the best strategic thinkers in uniform today." Fallon opposed the "surge" in Iraq and has consistently battled the Bush administration to avoid a confrontation with Iran, calling officials' war-mongering "not helpful." Privately, he has vowed that an attack on Iran "will not happen on my watch."
Unfortunately, this level-headed thinking and willingness to stand up to President Bush may cost him his job. According to a new article by Thomas P.M. Barnett in the April issue of Esquire magazine (on newsstands March 12), Fallon may be prematurely "relieved of his command" as soon as this summer: ...
[RLCC: This is hardly a surprise.
Bush and Cheney are playing with fire. They don't have nearly the power and control they imagine, not even close. They have zero credibility. They have been spearing numerous militarists for years now. Combined, those who have had the rug pulled out from under them have more power then Bush and Cheney and their ilk.
Bush is still being just as reckless as when he first came into office. He hasn't grown on the job. He's no peacemaker or peace-lover. In spite of his claims to the contrary, he is rather a war-maker and war-lover. His actions belie his words. We know him by his fruits: Death, destruction, and theft.
We say these things publicly not to judge him and condemn him. We want him to turn to join the real body of Christ. It would please God to no end. However, the people must be informed. We each and all are obliged to sound the alarm on our watch lest the blood of all be demanded of us. We don't warm for our own sakes however. We do it in the spirit of the Golden Rule.
Keep the peace, but speak up.]
