AFP - A new expansion of a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank is set to start at the weekend, the right-wing Makor-Rishon Hatzofe daily reported on Friday.
Israel had pledged at a US-sponsored conference in November to abide by a five-year-old internationally drafted peace blueprint known as the roadmap, which calls for a freeze on settlement activity.
But Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed earlier this week that Israel would continue to build settlements in annexed east Jerusalem.
RLCC Comment: What's a pledge a worth? If whole nations can break pledges, what moral authority do they have to insist upon any individual adhering to his or her pledge? The answer is that they have no moral authority in that case.
Nations are just doing whatever they can get away with. What kind of signal is that to be sending to the youth of the world? On one hand, the adults who run the national governments and international governmental bodies of the world instruct their children to be upstanding (at least within their family, tribe, or narrowly defined mundane-blood nation). On the other hand, they engage in endless deception when it comes to everyone else.
This is the case where people don't understand that all people are brothers and sisters and one family in the flesh and that the real higher familial relationship concerns righteousness. Those who are righteous toward all, regardless of how closely related in mundane flesh, are the real rightful leaders.
