KANSAS GOVERNOR KATHLEEN SEBELIUS VETOS GLOBAL WARMING, POLLUTING COAL PLANTS PUSHED BY THE GREEDY UNCARING

Last week brought news that Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a bill from the Kansas legislature that would have expressly allowed construction of the massive Sunflower coal-fired power plants in western Kansas. We should all be cheering this historic decision....

If construction is allowed, annual emissions from these plants would include at least 11 million tons of climate-changing CO2 (the equivalent of approximately 1.5 million additional passenger cars on the road), hundreds of pounds of highly-toxic mercury, and tens of thousands of tons of acid-rain-causing sulfur dioxide. Most notably, because of the prevailing west-to-east weather patterns in Kansas, the pollution would drift eastward to rain down on the populated areas of Kansas — while an estimated 85% of the electricity would be exported out-of-state.
