I can see it now. Someone born in the U.S. loses his wallet so he has to stay behind in a lock-up facility while the rest of his family (wife and children) ride to safety on a school bus. Maybe it would be one or more of the kids who wouldn't be allowed on. Who's the repulsive person who thought up this screening idea? I wonder how he'll feel when he doesn't have the documents to get into Heaven.
That's not to say that it's right to hold back undocumented aliens from boarding school buses taking others to safety far from the coastal area where the brunt of hurricanes is felt. It isn't.
The idea that the government would screen people trying to escape a hurricane and hold all people without so-called proper identification in jail in the hurricane zone is a sign of just how far down the U.S. has slid since the neocons and racists started hammering away at the New Deal and the spirit of civil and human rights.
