After reading the Qur'an, Mohammed didn't come off to me as characterized by the self-styled moderate and liberal Muslims of today. Attacking and robbing caravans and taking slaves and wives, etc. just doesn't fit the mold of the Jesus Christ of the Gospels.
The Qur'an does though contain ambiguous passages, as do the Old and New Testaments. What can't be hidden though is what I mentioned above. Mohammed was a man of war and plunder. Jesus though was not.
Now, all sorts of men of war have been written about down through history in glowing terms. Mohammed is no exception. The following link will take you to a webpage where you'll find some of the most moderate-liberal (not Isaiah-Jesus liberal, but common, mundane, misguided usage) interpretation of Islam.
Mind you, I'm not advocating that the peoples of the different religions of the world be at each other's throats, but the fact of the matter is that Mohammed is not the right person to follow. His life example is darkness when we have the light of Jesus's life example. Why would anyone in his or her right mind choose Mohammed over Jesus? It's due to a combination of ego and fear often that has gone unexamined.
