Barack Obama is now willing to allow for new oil leases for offshore drilling off the U.S. coast (even though the oil companies are exporting oil — albeit heavy crude — and the oil companies are not drilling where they already have leases) provided it is part of the compromise that echoes Al Gore's stated plan for getting off oil in ten years. Obama doesn't go as far as Gore, of course.

Why compromise? If Obama were a leader, he'd work to convince the people. However, what he's really doing is burning the candle at both ends. He doesn't want to offend the oil companies, because they would target him with negative campaigning.

By taking the position he does, Obama helps perpetuate immorality. He doesn't call for the best and only the best. To do so though, he would have to be out of the running for Emperor.
