Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. It once was a slave nation controlled by European imperial powers Spain, France, and England. It threw off that yoke, but the racists have kept their boots firmly on the backs of the necks of Haitians ever since.
The U.S. for its part propped up dictators there (François Duvalier, known as "Papa Doc" and his son, Jean-Claude "Baby Doc," Duvalier). Those dictators saddled Haiti with large debts the principal of which the dictators stole for themselves. Haiti should not have to repay such loans.
Four years ago, the U.S. also overthrew the duly elected president of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
Since that time, Haiti has been hit with one disaster after another. The recent hurricanes have caused so much damage that people are literally starving to death. Yet, the U.S. does nothing. Even in the face of severe malnutrition and starvation, Robert Zoellick, president of the World Bank (from infamous Goldman Sachs), is still insisting on repayment of loans to the World Bank (over $1 million per week).
