How the common people can't rally behind Max Cleland's statements is a damning indictment of the American people in general. Thank God for individuals who stand in the gap for the land; otherwise, this country would already be in cinders. If you don't believe that, just look at history and what happens to nations that get too big for their britches. They all get their comeuppance. There have been zero exceptions, and there will be zero exceptions.
