Evening Buzz: Is 'top kill' working to plug leaking oil well?

Tom Usher wrote or added | When "Top Kill" doesn't work well enough: Where's the most oil absorbent material known to humanity that swells the most and the fastest of anything? Make a fairly rigid snake of it with tough splines (like umbrella spokes) embedded in it but concaved upon the main shaft a bit and with stops so the bowing can only go so far. Compress it and wrap it in a dissolvable material. Push that snake into the oil leak hole and hold it in place until the wrapper quickly dissolves and the material rapidly swells. The harder the oil pushes from below, the more the umbrella spokes would work against it. Surely they could test this and do the math with supercomputers to get the best model nearly the first time. Is there anything more urgent? Shouldn't the government have a blank check ready to get the best minds instantly working on it together?
