Where the Bradley Manning story broke? and more: "U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe" | Threat Level | Wired.com

Tom Usher wrote or added | I had missed the beginning of this story, so I went to where I believe it broke. What prompted me was learning that the Pentagon is searching for Wikileaks' founder, Julian Assange ("Wikileaks.org, an online community of some 800 volunteer cyber experts, activists, journalists and lawyers" http://www.independent.co.
uk/news/world/americas/pentagon-rushes-to-block-release-of-classified-files-on-wikileaks-1998313.html Assange has cancelled public appearances), to attempt to question him about 260,000 pages of secret communications of the US State Department that Bradley Manning apparently told a "former" hacker, Adrian Lamo, he, Manning, had uploaded to Wikileaks. Manning reportedly wrote that there were "almost criminal political back dealings" revealed in the documents.

The word "almost" there is troubling in that whistleblowing to outsiders really isn't supposed to be about "almost," not that I'm for the lawless Empire. I'm not. I'm for America living up to its supposed ideals, not for any of the Bush/Obama evils. However, Manning has reportedly taken responsibility for leaking the video of the US helicopter attack on innocent civilians in Baghdad. Now that wasn't "almost." That was clearly illegal activity on the part of the US military — claiming a telephoto lens on a camera was a weapon.

Also, the State Department is trying to figure out the potential damage by checking on all the documents Manning might have accessed and copied.
