Just when the world was about to embark upon the right course, Halliburton came up with fracking. Combine that with Canada's tar sand, the world is headed to Hell at an ever accelerating rate. The one and only answer is unselfishness. The carbon corporations though are based upon selfishness, and there's no such thing as enlightened self-interest in capitalism -- state or otherwise.
