Insane: 73 US Senators say that a state can't require GMO food labels

Am I reading this correctly, 73 US Senators say that a state can't require GMO food labels? If so, 73 don't want you to be able to tell whether you're buying GMO unless you buy certified organic and can even depend upon that certification.

Testing of GMO's has clearly shown that it promotes diseases in tested animals.

"Research studies show that genetically modified crops have harmful effects on laboratory animals in feeding trials and on the environment during cultivation. They have increased the use of pesticides and have failed to increase yields. Our report concludes that there are safer and more effective alternatives to meeting the world's food needs."

It is way beyond the time when the greed of corporations trumps the retail consumers' right to know what's in the food! I can't believe how incredibly stupid so many people are in "high" places. Those 73 Senators apparently put their selfish political careers (campaign funding and revolving-door jobs) above the health and well-being of the whole people.

To permit States to require that any food, beverage, or other edible product offered for sale have a label on indicating that the food, beverage, or other edible product contains a genetically engineered ingredient.

How did your state do? Mine was sane on the issue: Washington: Cantwell (D-WA), Yea; Murray (D-WA), Yea
