Democratic socialists have offered no evidence that new federal takeovers of the economy would not produce the same disasters as followed federal domineering of agriculture or the mortgage industry. [Source]

Really? Hogwash!

First of all, the statement is a logical fallacy. The simple reason is that the premises are utterly false.

"... federal domineering of agriculture or the mortgage industry" did not result in a disaster. Concerning agriculture, it made mistakes, but did vastly help farmers to learn better methods in many cases, cases without which, we would have been much worse off. Just look at the Dust Bowl and how much better things got after farmers were taught better cultivation techniques. If there are still better methods yet, you can't fault 1940s+ federal involvement for not already knowing what has been discovered since.

In the case of the mortgage industry, the fallacy is the perpetuation of the utter nonsense that Fannie and Freddie caused the Great Recession. They most certainly did not. Deregulation of Wall Street caused it. Fannie and Freddie came to the game late and only made the mistake of trusting the fraudulent rating system bought and paid for by Wall Street banks.

Now, as for democratic socialism directly, it's democracy that can only take place with transparency. It is the People ruling themselves after having been given all information, something they do not have, never have had, and certainly never get under capitalism.

What's the evidence that government is not the enemy, per se? Why is Social Security better than going private retirement only? Why is Single-Payer health coverage always better than not, provided funding isn't undercut by privatizes subverting democracy. Why did the Tennessee Valley Authority work so well? Why did the US superhighway (freeways, not tollways) work so well? Why are free sidewalks better than having to paid a private enterprise a toll just to walk to work, school, the public park, etc.?

What part of socialism don't you like, just being richer than your neighbors? If so, you need to check not only your mind but your heart and soul too.
