Right now: Julian Assange, Corrupt Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno, the INA Papers scandal, US fascist-neocons & fake-liberal interventionists (war criminals), WikiLeaks, & Jeremy Corbyn

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno is deeply involved in a corruption scandal revealed by the INA Papers.

Moreno had been pretending to be the ally of the former President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, who was a very progressive President by historical South American standards. Correa was part of the fresh air known as the Pink Tide (Pink meaning leaning Red or socialist if not completely democratic socialist). Moreno ran as Correa's replacement with Correa's backing at the time, as Moreno was promising to continue Correa's progressive policies and practices. Once in office, Moreno immediately began dismantling those progressive policies and practices and putting Ecuador back in debt to the IMF (austerity-neoliberal leeches who burden the poorest of the poor to benefit the richest of the rich). Moreno revealed his true stripes: corruption, neoliberalism.

Because Julian Assange and WikiLeaks stand squarely against governmental corruption and are targeted by the fascist neocons and global neoliberals (economic austerians), Moreno has been slowly turning the screws on Julian Assange via lies and other wicked measures.

Assange is in sanctuary in the Ecuadorian embassy in London so he won't be extradited to the US to face the fascist-neocon kangaroo justice system there, where he'd possibly be tried for doing his job (there were already secret charges against him that leaked out), which has been to publish documentation leaked to WikiLeaks, a journalistic publishing organization founded by Assange.

Of course, Julian Assange and WikiLeaks haven't done anything that the New York Times and Washington Post haven't. However, neither the New York Times nor Washington Post nor its journalists have ever been threatened by the US government the way Assange and WikiLeaks have been: with death, etc.

Lenin Moreno is in a hurry to kick Julian Assange out of the Ecuadorian embassy because British Prime Minister Theresa May could quickly be replaced by the Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, who might not be willing to turn Assange over to the fascists in the US.

Personally, if Assange were to leave the embassy, be arrested by the police there, tried for going into sanctuary to avoid being sent to Sweden to face false accusations by Sweden against him, extradited to the US, held there for trial for having done his job, all hell would break loose. It would be the most important constitutional crisis to play out in my lifetime. That's because the Bill of Rights would be on trial, specifically the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Freedom of the press is fundamental to democracy and good government. Assange and WikiLeaks have done nothing but expose illegal governmental dealings including US war crimes. That's why the fascists want to imprison and possibly execute Assange.

I don't see the American People sitting around allowing that to happen. It could trigger a great deal of violence and destruction that might be beyond the fascists reining in. I don't advise the US government to test this.

If Donald Trump has any brains at all, he'll pardon Julian Assange concerning any and all allegations made against him by the US government.

"Ecuador twists embarrassing INA Papers into pretext to oust Assange":

The INA Papers are a set of documents published in February 2019, allegedly uncovering the operations of INA Investment Corp, an offshore tax haven created by the brother of Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno. The trove of emails, phone communications and expense receipts are said to link the president and his family to a series of corrupt and criminal dealings, including money laundering and offshore accounts. The leak has sparked a congressional investigation into President Moreno for corruption. Moreno can’t be summoned for a criminal probe while he remains president. He is currently being investigated and risks impeachment.

Former Consul of Ecuador Fidel Navarez denounces the “resolution based on a lie” that blames Assange for the INA Papers:

The recent reaction of the Ecuadorian government to the INAPAPERS scandal could not be worse. Instead of clarifying and making the issue transparent, the government spokesmen, to divert attention from the still timorous official investigations, position a monumental lie, accusing WikiLeaks of having leaked communications and images of President Moreno’s family circle.

Not a single document referring to INAPAPERS, or the president’s family, has ever been leaked or published by WikiLeaks, let alone by Julian Assange, who for more than half a year has not been its editor and who has been isolated for one year under a regime quasi-prison by the government of Ecuador.

Despite being an outrageous accusation, the farce has reached the point that the Ecuadorian National Assembly has issued a resolution to investigate Julián and encourages the government to take measures to “safeguard national interests.” In short, the government seeks a false pretext to end the asylum and protection of Julian Assange.

British police stationed outside Ecuador Embassy following WikiLeaks tweets:

British police are prepared to arrest WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange if he is ousted from his sanctuary at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
...
The news comes hours after a Twitter account representing WikiLeaks cited a high-level source in the Ecuadorian government who said that Ecuadorian President Lenín Moreno, himself at the center of a corruption scandal triggered by leaked documents, was seeking to oust Assange from the embassy.
